Who may apply for the scholarships?
Dependent children, age 23 and under, of full-time or part-time (as defined by each NAMC) active team members of TEMA or one of the NAMCs. Team members must have completed a minimum of six months direct employment with Toyota as of the application postmark deadline date. Applicants must be high school seniors or graduates who plan to enroll or students who are already enrolled in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school.

What does "dependent children" mean?
Dependent children are defined as natural children, legally adopted children, or stepchildren living in the employee's household or primarily supported by the team member.

What does full-time undergraduate study mean?
Full-time study is defined as full-time enrollment for the entire upcoming academic year.

How are recipients selected?
Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience, a statement of goals and aspirations, unusual personal or family circumstances (if applicable) and an outside appraisal.

Will financial need be part of the evaluation?
No, the student's financial need is not considered in the evaluation process.

Who will determine the scholarship recipients?
A committee of highly trained individuals from Scholarship Management Services will make the selection of recipients.

What is Scholarship Management Services?
This scholarship program is administered by Scholarship Management Services, a division of Scholarship America. Scholarship Management Services is the nation's largest designer and manager of scholarship and tuition reimbursement programs for corporations, foundations, associations and individuals.

How many scholarships will be awarded for the 2012-13 school year?
Up to 50 scholarships will be awarded. Of these 50 scholarships, there will be four (4) $1,250 renewable Toyota Ultimate Achievement Awards granted. And there will also be four (4) $1,250 non-renewable Toyota School and Community Awards granted. The remaining scholarships will be for $1,250 and are non-renewable awards.

What are the requirements to renew my Toyota Ultimate Achievement Award?
The Toyota Ultimate Achievement Awards will be renewable for up to three additional years or until a bachelor's degree, or the equivalent, is earned, whichever occurs first. Renewal is contingent upon recipients maintaining a 2.75 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent) in successive years to earn renewal of the award.

How are the Toyota School and Community Awards determined?
These four (4) $1,250 non-renewable awards will be granted to the four students who have demonstrated the highest degree of participation in school and community activities.

What does non-renewable mean?
Students must reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Can a student receive more than one Toyota-sponsored college scholarship a year?
No. A student may receive only one Toyota-sponsored college scholarship per academic year. However, students are encouraged to apply to all scholarship programs for which they are eligible. (NOTE: Students who receive the Western Federal Credit Union Scholarship may also receive a TEMA scholarship. The Western Federal Credit Union scholarship is not connected with the TEMA scholarship program, as the Western Federal Credit Union program is open to members of the Credit Union and is not limited to Toyota team member children.)

What is the application period?
The application period is December 1, 2011 through March 1, 2012.

What is the deadline for applications?
The application postmarked deadline is March 1, 2012. Applications postmarked after the March 1, 2012 deadline will not be accepted.

Applicants will receive acknowledgment of receipt of their application. If an acknowledgment card is not received within four weeks, applicants may call Scholarship Management Services to verify that the application has been received.

When will announcements of awards be made?
Scholarship recipients and non-recipients will be sent written notification of their status by late April 2012.

How are scholarship awards paid?
Payments are made in equal installments on August 15 and December 30. Checks are mailed to each recipient's home address and are made payable to the school for the student.

What are the scholarship recipient's responsibilities?
Recipients are required to notify Scholarship Management Services of any changes in address, school enrollment, or other relevant information and to send a complete transcript when requested.
